God's Judgement on Sin

Oct 26, 2025    Matt Hines

This sermon from Romans 1 confronts us with an uncomfortable reality: we may be living in a time of divine judgment through abandonment. The message walks us through a sobering progression—from a sexual revolution in the 1960s to our current cultural confusion about fundamental truths like biological sex. But this isn't just about cultural decline; it's about understanding what happens when societies stop honoring God and giving Him thanks. Three times in Romans 1, Scripture says 'God gave them up,' marking a descent from impurity to homosexuality to a debased mind that can no longer discern right from wrong. We see this manifested when a Supreme Court justice claims she cannot define 'woman' or when we celebrate what once brought shame. Yet even in this darkness, hope blazes brightly. The gospel remains the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes. Just as a parent sometimes steps back to let a child learn from consequences, God allows us to reach the end of ourselves—not to destroy us, but so we might finally turn back to Him. The path forward isn't political; it's deeply personal. It starts with each of us choosing to honor God, give Him thanks, and trust in His design rather than our own inventions.
